Make Your Spray Tan Last Longer

For the first two days after a spray tan, your skin looks amazing. And after that, the tan starts to fade. When a spray tan is applied properly, and looked after well, your tan can last up to 10 days. But it’s not all about what happens after a tan, it’s also about the preparation you do in the days leading up to your tanning session.

BEFORE THE TAN

In the days leading up to your session, exfoliate 2-3 times in a week and apply a good quality moisturising lotion everyday! Dry, flaky skin will make your tan look patchy, because the colour won’t absorb evenly over the body. Pay close attention to those knees and elbows, and don’t forget the back of the neck!

If you have any waxing to get done, book your appointment 48 hours prior to your tanning session, and if shaving do so 24-48hrs prior. This allows your pores time to tighten so your tan doesn’t end up with the appearance of tiny dark spots.

Make sure to wash your hair well. We recommend avoiding shampoo or conditioner for two days after tan.

On the day of your appointment, shower, scrub your skin gently, avoid applying moisturisers or lotions, and avoid deodorant! Moisturisers and lotions can affect how well your skin can absorb the tanning product, and having deodorant under your arms will turn your armpits green.

Sublime Tanning uses Minx Tanning solution, which includes hydrating ingredients to help your tan last longer, so rest assured, your skin won’t miss out on nourishment on the day! Wear loose clothing so the tanning solution doesn’t rub off afterwards. Sublime Tanning provides disposable g-strings to cover up during your session and hair nets to protect your hair.

AFTER THE TAN

Every salon uses a different product, so make sure you find out how long you need to leave the product on your skin before you rinse it off. Some only need an hour for a light tan. Others can be as long as six hours for a really dark tan! Our solution is 1-4 hours, but can be left as long as 6 hours if you want the darkest tan possible.

Rinse off in a quick lukewarm shower, and DO NOT use any products on the skin. Simply wash off with water, and do not wash your hair.
Over the next few days, keep your skin well moisturised. The best time for this is when getting out of shower. Pat dry, leave skin slightly damp and apply your moisturiser. Because your hands and face are washed the most regularly you will find that your tan fades faster in those areas. To help prolong your tan keep your skin nourished with a good moisturiser. DO NOT use tan extending products unless the salon can recommended one that won’t affect your colour and turn your tan tones of orange.

To remove your tan exfoliate your skin gently. Exfoliating gently will mean your tan will fade evenly. Having a warm to hot bath in oil and scrubbing while in the bath is the best to remove the tan without exfoliating the skin too harshly. Simply soak in a bath with coconut oil and use appropriate exfoliating mitts while soaking. This will help your skin in more ways than one.

Make sure all old tan is gone before having your next to enjoy a perfect even and flawless finish.
