Has your skin suffered over the holidays?

DID YOU OVERINDULGE OVER THE HOLIDAY PERIOD?

You may have noticed your skin isn’t looking its best. Overindulging on sugar and fatty foods, along with excess alcohol and late nights can all affect the health of your skin.

FOOD

Sugary and fatty foods can cause breakouts on the cheeks and the nose. To help flush your system and bring it back to health, cut out all sugar from your diet for at least a week. This includes reducing your fruit intake to those with lower natural sugars, i.e.

  • Strawberries
  • Raspberries
  • Apples
  • Oranges
  • Peaches
  • Cranberries
  • Avocados (only 1 gram of sugar and contain healthy fats that are good for you)

Nourish your body with lots of vegetables and lean protein (e.g. skinless chicken and turkey and lean mince).

Stick to a good cleansing and toning regime, and if you have time, apply a face mask every couple of days. If you need extra assistance, book in with Sublime for a facial!

ALCOHOL

Alcohol is a diuretic, so drinking in excess will dehydrate your skin. Dry skin looks flaky and dull, and skin turnover drops, which can cause pore blockages. It can also cause blood vessels to dilate, which can make your nose appear redder and bigger!! Drink lots of water to counteract the effects – a bare minimum of 2L per day, and try for 3L if you exercise regularly.

Make sure you have water beside you at all times. If it is where you can see it, you will remember to drink it! As soon as your glass empties, refill it.

Use a good quality moisturiser to assist in rehydration, particularly at night. Sublime stocks AHAVA skin care and can help provide recommendations if you are not sure what you need.

SLEEP

Lack of sleep increases the body’s inflammatory response, which can worsen existing skin issues. Give yourself a chance to catch up on those much needed ZZZ’s with a few early nights. A decent night’s sleep will also help boost the production of collagen in your skin, which helps your skin look younger.

Not only that, but skin receives a boost in circulation when you sleep, which means your skin looks healthier the moment you wake up!

Apply these tips above, and your skin will be back to glowing in no time. If you need a new skin care regime come and see us at Sublime and we will help you out!
